I figured I would start my WIP thread for the Parkhammer modeling contest. I haven't actually started yet, but I did order 2 in case I'm not happy with the first. I'm also facing a dilemma maybe y'all can help me with. My CSM are built to be mono-nurgle, but I also use one model as a khorne lord on a juggernaut. Despite that, he's still painted green and white to match my nurgle forces as I'm not usually a fan of the "rainbow" look of a chaos undivided army. I want to use the contest model as a tzeentch herald and expand into daemon allies. The tough choice now is do I go traditional with blues and pinks, or go green/white to match my CSM primary detachment? LMK what you think. I'm heading out to MG to use my credit on new paints this afternoon so I'll have to finalize my palette by then. In the meantime, I've been surfing for inspiration since I like to visualize the final product before I begin. Here are some models that will be influencing my final piece either via painting or conversion techniques. I'd like to see one of them painted in the white/green combo as its a very unique look. While the skin/armor can match your army, the weapon/staff can include purples/blues as a nod to Tzeentch.
I started tinkering with mine over the weekend as well. Between the tzeentch model, the tyranid terrain, and the new pathfinders for Tau, all chaos projects are on hold.

I just ordered mine since I am not going to make it to a shop in the near future - this guy is great though since I need another Sorcerer/Tzeentch Herald.
I like the idea of blending green and white for him too - will be very unique.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I will continue the nurgle palette even tho it's a tzeentch model. I think the horrors will look cool in green also like little slimers.

Models arrived yesterday and they're really nice. I wish they would make all characters plastic like these and just give up finecast altogether. Great detail, brilliant assembly and concealed assembly seams everywhere except the breast plate.
I was sifting through my bitz and sprues and found a leftover piece from a previous project that will make for a stunning conversion if I can make it work.
The other thing that's nice is the model is so skinny that there's very little surface area. Should make for really fast painting.

So it begins. Not super exciting but I've never tried drilling and pinning before so this is a first for me. I'm also pinning the disc so I can play the model on foot or with a mount.

Gotta keep up with Kevin! Fleshtones started with 50/50 camo green + black over black primer. Non-flesh areas are masked with poster-tac. Another pass with the airbrush over flesh areas with pure camo green. Final pass with 50/50 camo green + dead white. Re-mask over flesh areas to start armor. Armor areas airbrushed dark fleshtone. Another pass with the airbrush using 50/50 dark fleshtone + dead white. Final pass with pure dead white. Same process with dark fleshtone and plague brown on the staff. Some purples and blues on the cloth, don't remember the names of the colors. Assembled model, airbrush only thus far. Started shading the face with black glazes. The wet palette I use. The black glaze I use is the lower rightmost region under the black paint. A glaze is similar to a wash, but you aren't coating the whole model, just staining areas with a very watered down pigment. To the right are the dark fleshtone, plague brown, and dead white I use to blend the NMM gold areas. Starting the staff. Black glaze the details of the staff. Then 50/50 dark fleshtone + black glaze on the staff. Continuing staff glazing with 50/50 dark fleshtone + plague brown, then pure plague brown. It's hard to see the progress but it's there. Subtlety is the key for blending with glazes. 50/50 plague brown + dead white. Pure white glaze on the points. That's all so far. I hope to finish the figure this week so I can start on the custom disc and base. Probably not going to leak too many more pics as I don't want to spoil the "reveal" at Parkhammer. But I'll continue taking pics and update the thread after the event.

Thanks guys I'm having lots of fun with this guy. Sometimes I wonder if I enjoy painting more than playing anymore. Could have something to do with me being 0-5 over my last five games lol.
I'm even more excited about my disc conversion. I've spent hours googling images and checking CMON, deviantart, and painting blogs and I haven't found a matching model yet so it may be the first of its kind (at least until somebody else lies the idea). Hope I can pull it off.

Wow! That is like nothing I have seen before at all for the disc - it looks great! I like the contrast of the blue with the rest of the army too.
