Figured I'd start a WIP thread for updating my police themed army. New additions will be Tau and Imperial Knights to the existing GK core units. Here's the first test model about 80% done. And the beginnings of my commander. Have I mentioned I hate finecast with a passion? This model would be really sharp as a plastic kit, but the crappiness of the resin means most his straight lines aren't straight and most of the flat surfaces aren't flat. I actually purchased these models before 7th and intended to use Farsight to unlock his 8, but the changes to MC's (O'vesa) made me reconsider so this guy will be a generic commander. I cut off the dawn blade and replaced it with a plasma rifle. More updates as I work, which should be pretty fast again.

Looking good - your Daemons look really good but somehow I always think of you are more a natural Eldar/Tau/GK style of player. Looking forward to catching all these beautiful units in a Daemon inflicted sweeping advance.

Yeah it's hard to nail down my playstyle. I like assault armies and feel close combat is more entertaining/narrative, but the game really does favor shooting armies. This was driven home at the GT with an army entirely assault based. I figured I'd stop fighting the current and go with a fun shooting army that's dynamic, not a gunline, still has MC's which I love, and can fit a hylander format/earn better comp/sports. Put 2 more hours into my commander. It's weird because it doesn't look like much progress, but I think a black & white paint scheme is really hard to photograph. Like the large raised shoulder pad is shaded white through black, but the photo just looks like natural lighting. I have a new respect for people who paint tau. They have so much surface area and so many hard edges to line, they take 5x as long as I anticipated.

Looks outstanding, the shading across the shield is great. Ideally a good paint job should look like natural light falling on the models and creating shadows - so I think you accomplished your goal.

Wife got me a new camera for xmas unexpectedly. Haven't fooled around with it too much, or set up a proper shoot with lighting and a background, but snapped a few pics from my work table. I hope to get back to progress now that one big holiday is behind me at work.

The camera looks really good too - the quality difference from just your work bench is huge.

The shield looks really spectacular, is it just a lot of careful layering, or wetblending?

White to black is airbrushed. The blues are wet blended.

Back to painting again... Finally finished assembling my 400pt combat patrol force. Lets see if I can get them painted in 10 days. Shas'el'launmower. Originally bashed to be a 'buffmander, I magnetized the burst cannons for this event. All the extra optics and antennae were meant to represent the CnC, MSSS, etc, but made for a cool looking model so he'll be my "warlord" for this months event. Just airbrushed the base tones tonight. Beginning of my piranha also just airbrushed. I think the burst cannon is better for this format, but pursuing diversity and seeing as 'launmower has them, I kitted it out with fusion which rounds out my shooting with str8,7,6,5, and 4 shooting profiles. Gonna try and get black to white airbrushed on everything else by Friday and start detailing on the weekend.

Progress. Started detailing "the lawn mower". Airbrushed the base coats for most of the 400pt combat patrol. Just need 4 more kroot and do-over the blue crisis suit.
