So Nogle and I had the pleasure of driving down to the local erie gaming store for an innovative tournament format. It was a set list 1500 point space marine tournament. Brian really came up with a 4 round format that kept score through objective points and bonus points that kept all players engaged and in it till the end. It made for an exciting and thought provoking day. The erie store itself is very nice. It has a very good amount of gaming space and the noise volume was very low. The magic crowds seem to be a rowdy one(at all stores) and there is a partition separating us. The store employees were very happy to see us come down from buffalo and support the store. We may not be able to do it very often but we are definetly glad that we could make it.
As for the erie crowd itself..... great bunch of guys(and ladies). They are very welcoming. I've gone to other local scenes and felt like the grand enemy. These guys are happy to talk about the hobby with you. I've been playing against the erie guys for years in Rochester and hopefully in buffalo some time soon. They have always done a good job of supporting other tournament scenes. I strongly urge the gaming community to take a ride south on the 90 for a fun day of gaming in Pa.

I really wanted to make this event but I'm not being realistic anymore. Being married, self employed, and having a kid running around means I have to choose one event a month. For now I'll have to live vicariously through you guys.
Who placed in the top 3? Maybe we could run a mirror match tournament or lock in up here sometime.

Nogle got first. I came in second, I cannot remember the names of third or fourth....maybe brian could help me. fourth place only got 8 kill points all day and just strategicly pushed people off of objectives though. I guess she did well just by playing the missions...Always a good strategy. I also believe it was 16 or so players. I am also a one event a month guy. not to sure if ill make it to millennium this month with crossroads looming ahead. Still have 6 cubic feet of display board space to paint and detail, 10 conversions and 30 rats to paint.

Not sure if you can pull this off, but somehow when I mention I am being social with a peer group I tend to get a little more flexibility for this kind of stuff. Maybe not in the next few months but if you wanted to carpool down one month, I would be glad to make the trip. I have similar constraints as you in this regard and I always regret not being able to make these events.

It was great having you guys down and when Nogle told me he hadn't placed in a tourney in a long time I felt like the trip was worthwhile for more reasons than just hanging out. Third place when to a newer player in our area named Tom and Beth indeed took fourth. She was aggressive on the objectives and made enough armor saves to keep her guys alive while doing just enough casualties to her opponents. She normally plays Noise Marines and had never experimented with Marines before. Tom is an avid Necron player so having the top four made up of non marine players made me feel good about the format. I also have to thank Chris for helping me supply the models for those without marine armies of their own. We ended up with 14 people and for a non traditional format I was very pleased. Next month will be the Primer tourney for the GT using the GT missions so if anyone wanted to spare a month to get some games in we would be more than happy to see you again.
