Been a while and I wanted to drop in and say hey! I see you guys are getting dumped on with snow and I admit I kinda miss it heh. How's the game scene looking up there?

The scene is a bit of the wild west right now. there's soooooo much possible to use its a brain explosion. hard to keep track of what's out there, not to mention what's allowed. Just look at Adepticon this year to get an idea. monthly turnouts been down, but there was a lot of big tournies this fall that syphoned players. With it looking like every army will have a hard cover book by the end of the year, 2015 looks to be a very exciting year.
BTW our club in Buffalo, Beef and Wing hosted our first GT this year, "The Beef and Wing Brawl". its a one day 4 round 1250 points tournament allowing FW and 30k. Beef and Wing members (we are up to 8 members) are encouraged to play but are only eligible to win the Blood Brother award (best Beef and Wing member) This year the main tournament was won by A-Aron from Grand Strategery. registration included pizza and wing buffet and 3 hours of OPEN BAR. we had 34 players this year and plans for 70 next year. BTW it will be in August in 2015.

It has been a while Joe. Listening to the 11th company and Forge the Narrative podcasts, your name has been dropped several times. You must be doing a good job if people are talking about your painting skills on an audio format.
The local scene is in flux. Real life & edition changes have cause a bunch of attrition, but I think the existing group is pretty tight.
What's it like down your way?

Local Scene down here has at least one tournament a week and they keep them pretty varied to feed all interests. Some allow the LOW and other keep things to the Highlander events. Guys down here are hard as nails so its tough to win any games hehe. Going up against that Transcendent CTAN with the D hellstorm templates is tough heh.
Only major events I made it to this year were the ATC and NOVA. I paint judged at NOVA so could only play in the narrative. It was fun but next year I will play in the main event. Our local group sent two teams to ATC. I was put in the minor league team (all the power gamers stuck together on the other team heh)but we still managed to pull off a 4th and I won best paint with my Knights. Pretty army and fun to paint/light.
Currently I am working on Tyranids. Shocker of all shocks with that one hehe. It just looks fun to me and I am really getting a kick out of painting them. The challenge is getting lights in them. You should see them at ATC and/or NOVA next year.
I know a couple of the guys at FTN. Kenny Bouchard runs next level painting and he and I are always comparing notes. I took his airbrush style and applied it to my color methodology. I have know Paul since about 2003.
I think the game is probably in the best place it has been since I started playing in 2002. I think one reason we see numbers dropping is because everyone is waiting for the next codex drop or data sheet. The meta game changes so fast now that people have to adapt to playing what they like and know there is a counter for everything. Doug must be having fun with that....if he has not rage exploded yet hehe.
Next time you guys are at Millenium tell Travis I said hey. I want to try and make DaBoyz next year but it just depends on my work and what they do with army selection and comp. You guys should try to make it to ATC next year!!

I have not seen Doug in over a year at Millennium - not to say he does not make it in, just not when I have been around. The scene is a lot of fun, I think the idea of a true TAC list is dead for some armies right now though. Overall, the local scene has had a lot of diversity. I think there is an almost gentleman/woman's agreement that helps keep things diverse.
For example, this week CC took the invitational with 1 of each aspect (Shining Spears included), while I also saw Blood Crushers, Ogryns, Possessed, Blood Claws and a diversity of other units.
