I figured hobby goals/resolutions were more important in my happiness this year. so here goes
1) photograph all my models and get them online: I'm such a "grandpa" on technology. I have a good digital camera, great terrain and a high quality cell phone camera. I just don't have the know how and maybe lighting at my house. I want to post more on some 30k sites and I need to show my models, its really important to me.
2) upgrade all my bases: I don't want to lose any base point at DaBoyz GT this year. that means diorama type bases and while I'm at it I want all things on correct basses(32 mm for marines, maybe round bases for fantasy?)
3) break 10k for World Eaters: have 8k+ painted, maybe a focus on LOW, chaos/khorne?
4) get a space marine Fire raptor: my 30k is sorely lacking in anti air
5) legally get whatever FW books I need to play Spartan in 40k for marines and chaos
6) Sell my blood angels: have more than 7k painted and more on top of that

Some good stuff there but you forgot to put; "challenge kevin to a 4k point game" As for putting pics online, i currently use photobucket but over the past year i dread going to their site due to all the ads and pop-ups. I really wish they kept it simple but at least its free and easy to create image links. I also need to start taking more pics. I've done more painting and terrain building over the holiday but have had zero motivation to post pics here or blog about it over on the chapel. So much of my interest has turned towards xwing and other games that 40k has lost some of its luster.

I would love to play you Kevin, I can field some fun stuff in 4k of World Eaters. We could make a nice day of it.
I'm having a hard time with getting into xwing, just seems like a game of bumper cars or something. not cinematic like 40k and such.
I keep looking at that batman game. kinda like necromunda with superheroes. read about a tourney when marvel, dc and watchmen were all allowed. cool idea and only like 6 models to a gang.

updated list:
1) photograph all my models and get them online
2) upgrade all my bases
3) break 10k for World Eaters:
4) get a space marine Fire raptor:
5) legally get whatever FW books I need to play Spartan in 40k for marines and chaos

I think the key to getting the most out of x-wing is mastering your dials and practice maneuvering through asteroids. For the first one to one and a half years of playing I was always bumping into my ships and asteroids pretty consistently. Then I started setting up asteroid fields, taking 3-4 ships and practice moving as a squadron through the fields to get better at learning the dials and movement templates. Now I'd like to think I have gotten much better with the game and I can keep ships in formation for a longer period of time. For example, last night I was at Smitty's and I played a game with Matt where we had 6 asteroids and 6 debris fields set up and I only hit an asteroid once and matt did not hit any and together we had 8 ships on the field. Then I played Ben with a total of 9 ships on the field and 6 asteroids and Ben only hit 1 asteroid and I avoided them all game. As for hitting other ships, sometimes that is unavoidable because you do not know what your opponent has planned but with some ships I find it a viable option to actually run into/near other ships. I played Gemmer yesterday and his ability is to gain an extra agility die if he is within range one of an enemy ship. So to keep him alive a lot longer it paid to have him up close and sometimes bumping other ships. If I am touching a ship then neither of us are shooting at each other but anyone else firing at me still grants me the extra die. As for cinematic, I'll grant you that if the game is being played in a tournament format but if you are playing for fun then building fleets with your favorite ships can be just as rewarding of an experience as playing 40k. Fantasy Flight Games has quite a few themed missions available for you to play plus there are a lot of fan made missions out on the web. Check out the resources section (lower right column) of this site for a lot of cool examples: outworld-studio.com/uxgc.htmlIn the end, each game has different appeals for different people and we may not all enjoy the same games, but for me x-wing is one of best games out right now. Agreed, I have two large fantasy armies and very rarely get in any games due to lack of finding opponents to play. If it weren't for Crossroads and the 1 Two Kings event last year I would not have played any Fantasy at all.

I've got such a backlog to photograph as well. As for an image hoster, try flickr. Much nicer than photobucket and they have a nice retouching tool built into the site. As for X-Wing, the more I play it the more I like it. With all the ships out now you can built very different lists.

thanks for the idea on flckr, I have to work on the picture taking side too(file size, lighting and such). Chip said he'd help, but he kinda goes to the winds a lot.
I have a hard time expressing what is "off" for me with X-wing. I love the IP and the characters, but all they are in the game is cards. It feels very sterile to me. maybe its "slower" than the old video games. I never got the feeling during a game of the speed/craziness of the scene when the falcon leaves the deathstar and is chased and Han and Luke are gunning down tie fighters. I looked at the missions/ campaign. looks neat, could really be something when you could tie in armada and imperial assault.

Like this thread idea. My goals are to:
1 - Field a 5 Dread strong Helbrute Murderpack
2 - Paint 1000 points of CSM to a high (for me) standard
3 - Base said CSM using wood floors
4 - Take the time to design/create a convenient, compact and complete display board

No need to wait until 9th ed. Have you even played 8th once?

about 20 games and a GT with the Ogres in 8th. I played 4th and 5th, never played 6th or 7th. I feel with the new rules coming and end times flying around I don't know where the Ogres fit into that world.

I am waiting for the new edition too - mainly because I have round based Daemons and I want to see if they become legal or if they sell convenient movement trays for them so I do not need to build my own.

They already sell the movement trays for round bases, the LOTR trays, or even the 20 man tablewar trays like I have.

thought now would be a good time to revisit and see how I'm doing. here was the list
1) photograph all my models and get them online
2) upgrade all my bases
3) break 10k for World Eaters:
4) get a space marine Fire raptor:
5) legally get whatever FW books I need to play Spartan in 40k for marines and chaos
6) Sell my blood angels: no use having 2 marine armies, especially when 1(blood angels) is restricted to only 1 40k codex
7) play Kevin in 4k game
8) get back into Fantasy (when 9th comes out)
Updates
1) no progress
2) started collecting 32mm bases, brainstorming with chip how to do bases (thinking of some sort of "stamp" for green stuff on top of the bases
3) last models needed (8 man melta squad and Stormblade) are base coated, just need the white layers painted
4) will probably order next month
5) no progress (I have chips copy of the SM book and there is no word on how the chaos book interacts with the daemonkin book)
6) Blood Angel army is sold
7) played Kevin
8) already have my copy of Age of Sigmar assembled , plan on joining the two kings escalation league
So, I have 3/8 (6,7,8) completed, 2/8 (3,4) that should be completed in next 30 days and 3/8 (1,2,5) which might not happen before the end of the year

I am glad that you brought this one back - it is good motivation for me to get to painting some CSM after the Brawl this weekend.
