I get it that adepticon faq'ed it but if people play it differently region by region or community by community, it turns simple things like casting powers into a mess when bringing in people from different areas of the country. This is what makes it so hard when trying to determine if someone is cheating or not.
I will stand by my comments in the past that this is proof that GW wants to kill the competitive gaming scene. If adepticon and NOVA can come up with faqs why can't GW?

If adepticon and NOVA can come up with faqs why can't GW? Well then its up to the players to read the FAQ and abide by the rules IMO. The "competitive players(Your Tony Kopachs)" know this and they choice to ignore it.
Id agree with you that GW doesn't care about the competitive scene anymore, but I wouldn't say kill it. I think the FAQ's are just for casual play not the intense rule lawyering that can happen at the GT

Hey Eric, Congrats on the luck! Read the article and was wondering, what's your opinion on the most overlooked/non-observed/cheating rules? What were the common "oversights"? And what are the things you find easy to forget? I left the article on the blog deliberately vague because I thought this would be a better forum to discuss some of the oversights I saw - and a bit less public. Here are the top things I saw - most correspond to Daemon players because I watched a lot of Daemon games when I was there. 1. Miscounting psychic dice. Players who summoned units were particularly susceptible but I saw Psykers change mastery levels a few times and the psychic dice pool was inconsistent. Really a good way to do this is with tokens that represent the number of warp charges - with one/two/three added or taken away with summonings and unit deaths. 2. Misuse of Tzeentch psychic powers. I saw a lot of players cast Flickering Fire, then ignore the toughness test for Warpflame on the surviving unit. This test is a BIG DEAL for those units, and a few times would have made Iron Hands bikers 5+ FNP or better by the time it was over. 3. Misuse of Fateweaver. I saw a lot of Fateweaver and I saw him casting from both heads in a game turn. Fateweaver has two distinct power sets (I believe it is Telepathy/Biomancy and Divination/Pyronmancy). There was a lot of mixing going on between the heads. 4. Grimoire of True Names bearer does not benefit from +2 Invulnerable save. I saw the bearer take 2++ saves all over the tournament 5. Move through cover != assault grenades. Not being slowed by terrain, does not mean the unit avoids the initiative penalty for assaults through terrain. In a few games I saw models strike at initiative. 6. Jinking means snapfiring witchfires too. You cannot jink, and then drop a template with a FMC, it must be snapfired which is definitely not allowed. 7. Deliberately forgetting rules. As Koszka pointed out - people just forgot to do things that were advantageous to neglect. Having to constantly remind your opponent to take checks, or make rolls is tiring and makes for a bad game. Especially when the other player acts offended each time they are reminded. These are the ones that stick out, there were some other issues I saw with measurement disputes and some really slow playing at some points. At one point the players agreed to a 10" charge into cover, the other player rolled boxcars, move the first model. Then his opponent moved the model back and said, ooops, it was really 11". In another case, a blast hit a unit on player A's side of the board, fired by player A. They said it hit six models - from across the table player insisted it was only 4 - which made a huge difference with the subsequent barrage hits.

damn, this is disheartening. I have on my bucket list to win a GT (and another item is to specifically win DaBoyz). I read this (and talked to the other guys) and it makes me feel it will never happen.
Or worse, what I'd have to do to win.

I think you need to REALLY be on your game though to prevent it. In my limited experience, it does not get that bad until the last 2 rounds of a 6 game set.

Did you notify the Judges Craig? He did, I was watching most of that game. They really did not have their act together - a judge came to observe at the top of 2. Mainly because the BnW turn took like 5 minutes before they turned it over.

An hour and twenty five minutes? I can only assume you were livid, I'd be unable to pay attention if my opponent took that long for a single turn.
