So here are the results from the NOVA for the few of us that went.
Koszka went 5-3 (got placed in the third bracket!) and won best painted in the tournament!
Joe (Fishboy) won 3 of the painting awards from the crystal brush as well as getting placed in bracket 3.
Steve went 3-3 in bracket 9, but dropped out because he fried his brain after 2 days of 3 games each.
Greg went 3-5 in bracket 9.
I brought up the rear in the kids room/baby seal club, going 4-4.
Congratulations to all who played!

I hope you all had fun at the event. What was your impression of NOVA overall? Would you do it again?

I would go to NOVA again, but not really a fan of their bracketing format. I'm most likely going to do the narrative next year unless something cool happens/they fix their FAQ to stop allowing people to game the system (IE cast psychic shriek 6 times from the same unit).
Randomized matchups for the first 4 games make them kind of unenjoyable, but the fact that you get multiple brackets to win is kind of nice. I also didn't like the whole "battlepoints mean nothing except best general" part of rankings as well.
If they really wanted to do that, then battle points should be the amount of points you beat your opponent by, since you are also showing your generalship by countering your opponents while keeping your eye on your prize.

I can't wait to go back next year. After finally getting to play some of the more prominent players at GT's, I find that our local play group is a much more challenging circuit. Seriously, I went toe to toe with some of the most brutal meta builds and came out on top. It was awesome to meet Joe as well! Although our match ups a bit brief I was pretty psyched to meet another of our crew, albeit from another time

I had fun but Mike (runs the NOVA) needs to have a sliding scale for points. There has to be some penalty for loosing to prevent people from giving free points. Don't be modest....you crushed me in our game heheh. Getting first turn then the scouts was everything you needed then I got obsessed with the Culexis to the point I flubbed my deployment. You did everything right and I did it all wrong heheh. Wish we could have had more of a game but I really enjoyed the spare time to chat. It actually worked out because had I not lost that quick I would have missed the NOCF dinner for the painters. It was great to meet you guys and hopefully I will run into you and more next year! I did the Narrative last year and it is a blast as well so you will not ne disappointed heh. Next year I guess I will have to concentrate more on my paint and less on my lights hehe.

Fishboy dont feel to bad Koszkas lists are designed to confuse people. It takes a while to understand his combos and play style
His loaded dice are a factor aswell

It's funny I played next to him twice and against him once. I was impressed watching him play a Tau player that was pushing the rules envelope and he handled it very well heh.

With all this NOVA talk, where's some pictures? We have these two humble ass jokers bagging all the painting awards and they're not gonna show us what they won with?

That game was brutal AV10 and T3 dudes vs. 80 smart missiles was not a good match up I have no idea how i almost scored max points against them.

That was painful.
I had a hard time grasping how preferred enemy space marines had then become preferred enemy imperium. Said it was in one of the FaQs. Other than GW and NOVA, i don't know what other FaQ i should have been looking at. hahaha.
I also didn't know you could supporting fire units even after the initial charger makes it into combat. Still don't think that works...

Yeah.. PE: SM = PE:IG? Nope!
However, supporting fire says: Units (that qualify blah blah) may fire overwatch as if they were charged themselves. So I believe if you assault the bubble wrap unit and make it with the first assaulter and declare a second, units within 6" that haven't fired overwatch can still do so.
The WAAC mentality and horror stories coming from NOVA, Adepticon, and other large tournaments is what keeps me from going. Even at DaBoyz, I've heard so many times "this is how we do it at NOVA", or "trust me, I've played at NOVA". The year I played Eldar at DaBoyz, I played 2 rounds on the top tables and the worst games of my life were against "NOVA veterans" who pulled the most cheating/shenanigans ever.
Part of me thinks the "best players in America" are just the ones who've perfected cheating and brow beating their opponents into not challenging their shenanigans.

Hyv3, just kindly remind them that the Da Boyz is not NOVA and therefore not subject to the same FAQs as NOVA. I agree that playing with people trying to "exploit" the rules sucks the fun out of games real quick. Make sure you put Andy to work this year and call him over for any rules shenanigans that come up. You and a lot of other good people are paying a lot of money and investing a lot of time to have to put up with that kind of stuff. So what if you get dinged on sports at the end, we all know that the traveling circuit guys always vote for themselves anyway. Beef and wing learned that lesson well this year at adepicon when the daemon player tried to pull all kinds of shit on them and this guy is supposed to be one of the top players in the country. I can't remember his name but I'm sure koszka has it burned into his brain now.

Yeah I know the one. We won't bash names here but we should have a local player's meeting Friday or Saturday morning and talk about people and behaviors to watch for.
