Since buying Smitty's army I've been toying around with various builds and keep coming back to what I brought up to Canada and took 2nd with. I completely sacrifice my ability to shoot at range and shoot at fliers but make up for serious punch.
HQ:
Rune Priest - Bike, Hood, Frost Axe, Level 2, Digital Weapons, Melta Bombs (I want these attacks to hit if I split them off from the main groups)
Elites:
Iron Priest - Thunderwolf Mount, Digital Weapons (I want these attacks to hit if I split them off from the main groups)
Fast Attack:
Thunderwolf Cavarly - 2x the exact same unit
1x Bare
1x Chainsword, Storm Shield
1x Thunderhammer, Storm Shield (the other unit has a Powerfist instead)
1x Wolf Claw, Storm Shield
Troops:
Grey Hunters - Wolf Guard Pack Leader, Combi-Melta, Powerfist, 2x Melta, 7x Close Combat Weapons, Drop Pod
Grey Hunters - Wolf Guard Pack Leader, Combi-Melta, PowerAxe, 2x Melta, 7x Close Combat Weapons, Drop Pod
Grey Hunters - Wolf Guard Pack Leader, CombiFlamer, 2x Flamer, Drop Pod
Allies:
Imperial Knight Errant
1848 Points.
The general idea is two drop pods come down and instantly put 20 Grey Hunters in your opponents face with 2 Thunderwolf Packs and an Knight running up the board. The third drop pod can come in to support where needed. It's a very blunt army but I found it was very dependable and very fun to play compared to what I'm used to with my Crimson Fists.
What do you guys think? I've thought about dropping the Knight to add a Blood Claw pack with a Stormwolf for another scoring unit (and ObjSec flyer) and a flayer to kill others but than I feel like I take away the "up the board" threat.
