Not sure if it belongs here but here goes.
how would you justify iron warriors becoming thousand sons? Plague marines, khorne berserkers, noise marines are easy because they just follow one God. But thousand sons are automatons of dust sealed in a suit. How would an iron warrior just turn into a suit of dust willingly? Also can I use marines with a little tzeentch flair and use them as thousand sons in a tournament without the helmets?

Cult marines can be represented as small war bands of other legionaries joining together to raid/ attack.

Fluff-wise, the thousand sons were created (turned to dust) when Ahriman cast the Rubric of Ahriman on his followers because they were mutating due to Tzeentch's "gifts." So I think that was a one and done deal. However, like Koszka mentioned, you could portray them as renegade marines who have fallen to Tzeentch and have taken up Ahriman's cause. The robotic "enhancements" could be seen as a result of them slowly being changed by Tzeentch in return for them turning to chaos.
Model-wise I think as long as you painted parts of their armor (or all of it) in a blue/gold paint scheme then you would be fine. You just want something that you can point out to your opponent that these models are representing 1k sons and that they can easily tell them apart from your normal troops. Just plopping down Iron hand troops in black on the table and calling them 1k sons would be hard sell.
Have fun with them!

ha, scratch the above... I misread iron warriors as iron hands. Go with what Koszka said.

If you modify the weapons of the Iron Warriors a bit and add what looks like a FF generator to each, you can cover the AP 3 and Invulnerable save. The last bit is the brotherhood of Sorcerers - which could be devoting themselves to Tzeentch or maybe a bound Daemons of Tzeentch that one of them is carrying.
Not sure if you really want them to become 1k sons, or to represent the 1k sons rules in a unique way.

Just represent thousand sons for the bonuses

In that case, go with whatever technology would make them Iron Warrior'esque and fulfill the 1k sons rules.
