kev the problem for me is that I wanted to do a fluffier tyranid vanguard type list but at 400 points I just have to do to many models to make it work. I don't want to have to show up with 60 gaunts and my 3 warriors but its about all I can run. I would have like to used lictors muceloid spores pyrovores but now im back to the same stuff I always use.

Tyranids have more options in the format than any other army. Termagants, rippers, warriors, hormagaunts, genestealers, zoanthropes, venomthropes, gargoyles, spore mines, biovores? I don't have the new codex but are hive guard still legal? It's a small, heavily restricted format designed for cinematic skirmishes with fully painted forces. Many people lose out on what they really want to bring, but restriction are necessary to reign in abuse levels in such a small format. I'm working on my GK+Tau right now and I can't bring my terminators or broadsides, but I'll adjust accordingly.
If you have constructive feedback on the format please contact Travis or Smitty directly. The complaint/rebuff tone in this thread is counter productive to building the tournament support which we've been discussing for months.

hive guard yes, biovores no. As stated before I will attend this event and continue to support but that tervigon clause should be added to the format and I think wave serpents should be limited.

I think that vehicle restrictions should be limited to armor values totaling more than 33 This means that most armies get to field their transports (IE: rhinos, razorbacks, devilfish, tauroxes, chimeras, trukks, lotted wagons, raiders, venoms, etc) Eldar armies can't have serpents, but they have jetbikes as troops, as well as everything having fleet/battle focus. its a 4x4 table.... how much maneuvering do you really need? I feel that combat patrols should not cater to your normal armies. Patrols are quick moving forces that are light on armor, guns, and models. I would probably say we should just be limited to: • 0-1 hq • 0-1 elite • 0-1 fast attack • 1-3 troops • Lose the swing slot! its completely unnecessary. You have a total of 6 FoC slots. I'm pretty sure you can make a list with that many slots. By doing AV33 max and knocking out heavy support, we'll be able to avoid the pitfalls of things that wouldn't be in a recon patrol ( IE: thunderfire cannons, wyverns, barges, lootas, broadsides, etc). I dont see the problem with tervigons in a combat patrol. If they die, you lose your only synapse node ( apart from the 1-2 zoanthropes you may take) and your gants will all have a splitting headache, then fall off the board or do nothing. hahaha.. At adepticon i had to fight lists that were 4 wraiths, 2 x5 immortal squads, and an annihilation barge. It's a pain to deal with AV13 stuff that has an amazing damage output. Playing two thunderfire cannons was stupid too, as well as 3 broadsides . I agree with kevin about the spirit of the game. Make your list reflect the patrol / recon narrative. • Sneaky cultist units being directed by chosen kill teams • IG recon veterans with sentinel support • Marine scout infiltration force • Tau pathfinders scouting ahead of a fire warrior patrol • Ork speed freak outriders • newly awakened necron vanguard • Tyranids genestealer/ lictor tendril marking a world for invasion. Every army can work. Find out how your army can fit within the parameters.

Don't forget, no thunderfire or broadsides because of no 2+ armor save.

that is all I was getting at koszka I was just disappointed that the fluffy vanguard I had in mind for the combat patrol is not legal. I have been reading the leviathan campaign books and have been really into the encounter on vitra and I guess that made me cry like some kind of doug.
I was not intentionally trying to rip the format but I guess I was and in my defense for the possible choices of the tyranid codex most of them are a very boring str and toughness 3 with a 6+ save....hive guard are t6 but last time I brought a t6 nobody like to play it. so that leaves me with almost no way to kill vehicles unless I increase the cost of each gaunt by 50% to glance on 6's on the charge. str 3 everything is boring. str 3 everything that moves 6 inches and has no special rules is boring to me.

Craig play what you want, dont ruin your fun so someone elses can have fun beating you. Take whatever you want that you think would be fun to play. In all honesty i would prefer koszka's rules, wounds shouldnt make much a difference and heavy support is a hit and miss depending on your army.
On a side note, for January the should be another set of points added into the scoring. A Narrative aspect, before(or after) the game you should score your opponent on his list and the "spirit of the game". add these up and either make it like sportsmanship or use it to replace sports score.

The narrative aspect is an interesting idea.
Lets try to move this discussion to the 'theory' part of the board though - this is really more focused on the actual tournament details and I do not want to force people to wade through 6 pages of posts to find out what time lunch is going to be in June.

Can't wait for the Combat Patrol, and neither can my Orks. Also, for Feb Tournament, I'll have 1K of Ad Mech painted, if anyone's looking for a partner.

For the combat patrol event, Bill, Nogle, and Evan will be 30min late (10:30) as they have to take care of some business before leaving B-Lo. I don't think the delay will be a big deal due to the small points level, the game should play out quickly.

Looks like I'll be able to make it up tomorrow too! With Laura going to a weekend schedule, I'm not sure how many events I'll be able to make later on in the year.
